In the last few days Wilhelmina has gone from doing the belly crawl to doing a knee/ leg crawl. She hasn’t exactly made up her mind about what her legs should be doing but she still gets where she wants to go. Luckily, she is not too adventurous yet so while we have put the gate up we haven’t needed to close any doors or make sure other rooms are safe. It won’t be long though.
Another new feat is sitting up… she has been sitting for a while but would topple over within a few minutes, but now she is steady and can go from laying down to sitting to crawling…
As with Colin when he was a baby, since she doesn’t know where exactly to put her legs when crawling, she happened to move in such a way as to end up sitting and then realized that she can do it when she wants…
I can’t believe how fast this is going. Wilhelmina is most likely our last so I am making sure to savour all of these moments because they go by so fast…
Last week, Wilhelmina met her great-grandmothers. Last Wednesday, I picked up my father and went over to the nursing home his mom lives in to have lunch and spend a bit of time.
At 91 years old, she is a good shape physically, but with Alzheimer’s, her memory is slowly fading, but it isn’t gone yet. Being in the nursing home has helped her immensely these last few years.
My father didn’t tell her we were coming, so she was very happily surprised when we showed up in the dining hall… We ate lunch and then went up to her room and talked I was happy to see her and bring a smile to her face.
my dad was also very happy to meet his new granddaughter…
A few days later, on Sunday, my mom came to visit with her mom…
The last time my grandmother had come here was just before her surgery for stomach Cancer last November. The surgery went well, they took out 3/4 of her stomach and she has been recuperating since… she has lost weight and had pneumonia last month but is feeling better and is trying to gain her weight back…
She was very excited to meet her great-granddaughter…
My grandmother and my mom…
One thing that we wanted to do was to get a picture with the four generations of Women. We had a similar picture taken when I was a baby in my great-grandmother’s arms with my mom on one side and my grandmother on the other…
Then I asked the boys to come in the picture with us and surprisingly they all came without hesitation…
A picture I will always cherish…
I had a very special relationship with my great-grandmother when I was a child and a young teen. She was an amazing woman and I loved being with her and went to see her as often as I could, which was almost everyday in the year before she died. I am so grateful that my grandmothers are both still around, and I hope that as my children grow they will know their “greats” and have a relationship with them that they can remember also…

Making decorations the day before…
and birthday hats the morning of…
Grandmaman (Simon’s mom) brought over a game for the boys to play…
hungry, hungry frogs!
Two of the gifts that we gave Khéna are kitchen/food toys so we brought the toy kitchen in from outside and cleaned it up… both Khéna and Colin had a renewed interest in it and spent quite a bit of time making tea and other treats…
Here are some of the decorations that the boys made the day before… Paper chains are so easy to make and look so nice and festive around the house…
Cake time!! I made my favourite Chocolate cake recipe… (the corners got accidentally squished but no one cared but me)
Khéna was so excited at blowing out the candle and us all singing the birthday song…
Yay!!!!
The two Grandmas with the boys… (my mom is on the left)
Looking at one of the new gifts… (Xavier picked this one out)
Playing with his new Helicopter…
It was really a great day…
The boys played and had tons of fun with their two grandmothers here, we ordered Pizza and had cake and all the presents were perfect for Khéna and we know that he will enjoy them for a long time to come…
All the boys needed a haircut… so today I finally took the time and cut 4 heads of hair…
Xavier loves having long hair but won’t let us brush it or take care of it so we made the parental decision to cut it… He was really happy after it was done…
I left him some length but it won’t be in his eyes anymore and it will be easier to maintain…
Colin likes his hair a bit shorter so I gave him the usual cut so he doesn’t have it in his eyes or on his ears… I wil miss his dog ears in the pool when he would brush up the hair off of his ears…
Khéna got a good trim off the back but not much off the front… I want his hair to cover his scar so that it continues to heal and doesn’t get too much sun if he doesn’t have a hat…
Simon had the most hair and got the most chopped off… I really should do his more often becaus the longer it gets the more daunting the task is and the more I procrasinate doing it…
